DESIGN, TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE

Design Technology and Science (DTS) is based on the design cycle and it is expected that students will use this process in theoretical learning and practical investigative work. The learning and application of well established design principles and processes form the core components of design in the PYP and MYP.

             PYP

The aim of PYP design is to encourage and enable students to:

    • Think creatively and solve practical problems.
    • Apply their own ideas in practical ways.
    • Do research, learn design skills and making skills.
    • In the DTS class units of inquiry in science lessons and science stand-alone lessons are reinforced where necessary.
    • At Naseem International School, DTS aims to ensure that all students develop their creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently. They engage with hands-on projects in collaboration with steam which would enable them to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world while building and applying a range of knowledge, understanding and skills
    • As part of the IB Middle Years Program (MYP), the Design subject group, is split into two main disciplines of Digital Design and Product Design. Each discipline challenges all students to:
    • Apply practical and creative thinking skills to solve design problems.
    • Explore the role of design in both historical and contemporary contexts.
    • Consider their responsibilities when making design decisions and taking action.

           MYP

The aim of MYP design is to encourage and enable students to:

MYP Design focuses on a holistic design process rather than final products and solutions. In Product Design we create a variety of products that will have an influence over our daily lives. We are more pro-active in helping to save the environment by creating products with reusable and recyclable materials. Students also learn to design and build electrical circuits to create an innovative, well planned and steady outcome. In Digital Design students conduct a focused investigation using the design cycle to record their work in a design folder for assessment. At Naseem International School the Product Design and Digital Design disciplines conduct a joint Unit of Work on Robotics where students learn programming skills allow students to participate in  Competitions in Bahrain and abroad. A variety of technical skills are developed in each student over the period that they undertake their Design studies.
