Elementary School

Where Education Is An Adventure

The Elementary School provides a learning environment in which all the students can be happy, challenged and safe. We want to give all the students the confidence and enthusiasm to become life-long learners with an appreciation of, and respect for others. Each class of no more than 24 students, is of mixed ability and an effort is made to achieve a balance in terms of gender and nationality. The classrooms, which are large and fully resourced, have computers and interactive Whiteboards/Smart TV that are used in all areas of the curriculum.

NIS’s Elementary School serves students ages 3-11 in Nursery through to Grade 5. We provide a warm and caring atmosphere where each student is assisted in reaching his or her full potential. Our students receive instruction to think creatively, reason critically and communicate effectively. We recognize that not all students learn in the same way and structure our programmes and instruction to meet the varying needs of each child. We offer an international skills-based and inquiry-based programme supported by a professional and well-trained faculty.

The curriculum framework, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), has been designed specifically for International Schools and leads into the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programme. Educating the whole child is central to the IB Primary Years Programme. As we are a dual-language school, Elementary students spend most of their day with two teachers (English and Arabic) who teach the academic core of Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Religion.

Students can explore varying interests and develop skills in academic, artistic and athletic fields. We have specialists in Music/Drama, Art, Physical Education, Gymnastics, Design and Technology as well as IT to support our core curriculum. Regular class level performances introduce students to personal communication skills and provide all students with the opportunity to perform for our school community. Our Student Services Team (counselor, student supervisor, ASL teacher and learning resource specialists) collaborate with classroom teachers to meet the needs of all students. Regular communication like the weekly ES Bulletin and Monthly newsletter keep parents informed of our events, curriculum and class programme information.

The school is excited to announce the introduction of a new language program for our students in KG2 through Grade 5. Starting in 2024, all students in these grade levels will begin learning French, with a focus on developing conversational fluency through engaging and interactive activities. The French curriculum will emphasize spoken language skills, allowing students to practice real-world communication in a supportive and fun environment. Through games, songs, role-playing, and other dynamic learning experiences, our young students will build a solid foundation in the French language that will prepare them for continued language study in the years ahead. We believe this new language offering will broaden our students’ cultural awareness and give them a valuable set of communication skills to carry with them.

We became the first Google for Education Reference School in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Since September 2017, all subjects taught from Grade 3 upwards make use of the Google Classroom applications while using their Chromebook digital device. This is part of our ‘Go Green’ programme to be a paperless institute of learning.

The campus facility was built for Kindergarten and Elementary students. Grade level classrooms are located together so that students and teachers may work closely together. The school cultural theater provides a wonderful venue for musical performances, plays and assemblies. Our physical education facilities include an indoor gym, basketball and volleyball courts, and two designated ES playgrounds. We are equipped with  a comprehensive library. A full service Dining Hall provides an early and mid morning snack for all students, Gr 1-5.

Parents are welcome at NIS and we encourage an ongoing partnership with parents.

Philosophy:
In support of the school’s Vision and Mission and as part of its implementation, we at Naseem International School believe that School Club Activities can ‘educate the whole person’ thus influencing the child’s learning and enjoyment at school. We believe in play based learning as a means for young children to make sense of their world and engage in active learning. The club activities can help children to acquire and develop new and existing skills and can expose children to activities that they may not otherwise encounter or perceive as enjoyable.

Rationale
1. School’s Mission: We, the staff at Naseem International School, are committed to educating the whole person. We aim to provide a balanced education, which enables students to fulfill their potential in all areas of growth intellectually, physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially and empowers them to become the people they can and want to be.

2. In support of the PYP’s philosophy on “Play-Based Learning”

The aims are:

  • To provide students with a structured programme
  • To provide a venue to develop and fulfill their full potential through fun-filled and enjoyable school club activities
  • To provide opportunities for social interaction
  • To develop and improve leadership skills
  • To keep the students physically active
  • To clarify the relationship between play and academic learning
  1. Club activities offer students from Grade 1 through Grade 5, the opportunity to investigate areas of potential interest, improve skill sets, and interact with like-minded individuals outside of their immediate peer group.
    2. The offerings vary from semester to semester as teachers, parents and professionals from our community apply their expertise and enthusiasm to provide unique opportunities for students.
    3. These activities are wide-ranging and generally fall into one of six categories:
  • Visual and Performing Arts – Drama Group, Dance and Performing Arts, Visual Arts Club, Ballet Club
  • Academic Pursuits – NIS ES Newspaper, Math Challenge, Science Club, Karaoke(singing) Club
  • Technology – Computer Club, Coding Club
  • Sports and Movement – Sports Camp (Track and Field, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Badminton) Taekwondo, Tennis Club, Gymnastic Club, Yoga Club
